Our Mission:

The Jeweler's Players' mission is to bring good to the world through the beauty of drama.

Why Shakespeare?

"Your passionate commitment to Shakespeare, your manifest desire to impart to your students a love of truth and beauty, shone forth in The Tempest performance. Bravo to all! I am grateful for having the opportunity to witness the ensemble of talent and hard work that so effectively realized your ideals.
~ Fr. Eduard Perrone (Pastor at Assumption Grotto Church)

It has been said of the arts that "they seek to probe the true nature of man, his problems and experiences, as he strives to know and perfect himself and the world, to discover his place in history and the universe, to portray his miseries and joys, his needs and strengths, with a view to a better future." It can be argued that no playwright's works satisfy this description so well as Shakespeare's. As Ben Johnson said, "Shakespeare is not of an age, but for all time!"

Shakespeare plumbs the depth of human nature and judges it beautiful. He belittles the foibles of man and exults in his potential. He delights in the high wit of nobility and the wisdom of low simplicity. He instructs in virtue and warns of moral and spiritual madness. In his work the essence of human nature is encapsulated along with the moral, spiritual, political, and practical struggles of everyday man.

About St. Augustine's HEP

St. Augustine's Homeschool Enrichment Program was founded to unite the best of the modern home school with the tradition of a Catholic liberal arts education. The goal of Catholic liberal arts education is to understand how everything humans can ever know fits together in a coherent image of God's universe and how He wants us to live in it. Such learning must be lived and carried into the heart as well as the mind.

The students read original texts and engage in seminar-style discussions exploring ideas and their repercussions. Since love and knowledge grow together, Literature and History are at the heart of our curriculum. These subjects detail man's greatest hopes, and loves, and failings, when taught at any grade level. Latin, Philosophy, and Scripture lead children ever more deeply into the mind of the Church and the truths she teaches and embodies. Science, Math, and Writing at all levels provide languages to describe both the patterns of reality and our imaginations.
